Former President Donald Trump’s legal woes continue to mount, prompting his team to take action by launching the Patriot Legal Defense Fund Inc. The fund’s primary goal is to provide financial support for Trump’s allies and advisors who are facing exorbitant legal bills as a result of various ongoing investigations. Although it won’t cover Trump’s personal legal expenses, the fund aims to protect his close associates from financial ruin and ensure they have adequate representation against what they perceive as unlawful harassment.

According to the latest disclosure report to the Federal Election Commission, Trump’s Save America PAC has spent over $21.6 million in legal fees during the first half of 2023. The legal battles stem from multiple investigations, including a federal grand jury’s superseding indictment focusing on Trump’s handling of classified documents after leaving office. The indictment has also charged two others, Carlos De Oliveira and Trump aide Walt Nauta, with obstruction counts related to the alleged deletion of surveillance footage at Mar-a-Lago in 2022.

In addition to the federal case, Trump faces a 34-count indictment in New York state court related to hush money paid to Stormy Daniels before the 2016 election. Furthermore, he remains a target in special counsel Jack Smith’s investigation into the events surrounding January 6 and his efforts to overturn the 2020 election results.

Trump has consistently maintained his innocence, pleading not guilty to the charges and denouncing the investigations as politically motivated witch hunts. He and his allies have been urging supporters to contribute to Save America PAC, using false claims about the 2020 election to garner donations and challenge the multiple inquiries into the former president’s business dealings and actions on January 6.

The Patriot Legal Defense Fund Inc. will be led by Michael Glassner, a familiar face from Trump’s 2016 and 2020 campaigns, and Lynne Patton, a close aide from Trump’s days at the Trump Organization and in his administration, will also be involved in the fund’s operations. As Trump’s legal battles intensify, the establishment of this defense fund aims to bolster his team’s resources and mount a robust defense against the mounting legal challenges they face.
